Frequently Asked Questions and Help for the SimpleFAQ component
Unfortunately, due to repeated and persistent spamming of this area, I have had to close it to new FAQ submissions. If you wish to ask for support, please submit your question via the 'Contact Us' page. If it is of general relevance, I will then post the question and reply in the FAQ. |

| i Can see EditorArea in V2.50 but it won't work |
 | I decides to use an editor for the answer-field. I can see my editor FCK in the frontend for creating an answer , but only the words /text will be saved. All my formats like color oder bold type are away after saving. How to fix? Thanks! ------------------------------------------------- I disabled the wysiwyg editors because an earlier version of TinyMCE was causing untold problems for many people on many components. I decided to play it ultra safe. However, this is something I need to readdress now new versions are available. There is the possibility still in the backend commented out in the code:
To enable WYSIWYG editing in the administration. In /administrator/components/com_simplefaq/admin.simplefaq.html.php, comment out line 176 (TEXTAREA) and uncomment line 178 (EDITOR call). (precise line numbers may vary slightly as I'm looking at my latest dev. version)
However, the code needs adding in the front end manually and I have not had time to do this yet. |
| I would like to know if I can call the FAQ component from a module. |
 | As SimpleFAQ is a component, this would be tricky. I believe there are some third party apps that allow you to do this embedding though. I would suggest browsing the Joomla Extensions Directory. |
| SimpleFAQ 2.50 was successfully installed and work on Joomla 1.5.7. But wen I click on "Categories" the result is: 404 - An error has occurred. Component Not Found. Where is the problem? |
 | SimpleFAQ has not been tested on Joomla 1.5. I have had some reports saying that it works in legacy mode and others saying that it doesn't. Until I manage to get an installation of Joomla 1.5 to test against, I'm afraid I cannot change this. If any user has made the needed mods, please advise... |
| i always get this next to each category: FAQ ( _E_REGISTERED ) |
 | No answer entered yet |
| Do I need to be registered to post questions here? |
 | No, although I had closed submissions for a while due to a security risk which has now been resolved. Apologies to anyone who tried to post in the meantime... |

 | Very interesting website. Keep up the outstanding work and thank you. |
| How can I make the E-mail field mandatory? |
 | No answer entered yet |
| Would you be so kind to explain WHAT should be changed in WHAT files to increase number of characters in question? |
 | Because this way is not ok for me - users are not allowed to answer so they don't have answer field to continue their question. Hope to get your help! Thanx
Your question would require a large detailed answer and is beyond the scope of support I can offer here. In summary, the change you request would need a change to the underlying database field type, the form templates in both front and back end interfaces and the accompanying definition files in xml etc. Furthermore, any changes you make would be lost at the next update.
However, this is the very nature of open source, and I would encourage you to create a new fork of SimpleFAQ if this feature is essential. I believe some other users would be interested too.
Best Regards. |
| How can I increase the size of question in “SimpleFAQ 2.11” to 1000 symbols? Now the size is 255 symbols but it isn’t enough! (Joomla! 1.0.8.1) |
 | Please see the answer in this FAQ entry:

| Hi, would be good if the person entering the question could get an automated response if/when their questions was answered and published? :-) |

| Could you please allow a carriage return in the Intro Text (and some HTML, for formating) in the next Version ? |
 | If you drop in html tags, they will be used in the display. Beware, however, as I do no intelligent checks. If you leave a tag unclosed for example, you could destroy the layout of the rest of the page!!
This line is separated from the para above by two <p> tags |
| In SFAQ v2.30 there is a folder called 'tmpl' what is that for, don't see it installed anywhere, using J1.0.12 |
 | I started the integration of patTemplates when it seemed Joomla was going down that route. However, when this was then put on hold, I stopped the development work as it may have been a dead-end and waste of effort.
As far as the directory is concerned, it is still in my source tree but unused and hence, not installed. |

| Its me again, how do I write long questions? |
 | Its me again, Im very wondering (because i really need this one), how can the Question area field be like the one for the Answer, as its limiter for only 255 characters, but in Answer field you can put as many as you like i guess... I really need extended questions.
This is how to do it |
| Do you plan to release a Joomfish Content Element? |
 | I would like to, it is a question of time. |
| Is it possible to give a manager simpleFAQ permissions of just the Admin. If so, how? |

| Error in View Questions - Fixed in v2.13 |
 | After the installation, we having a error:
Notice: Undefined variable: Name in c:\arquivos de programas\easyphp1-8\www\joomla_br\administrator\components\com_simplefaq\admin.simplefaq.php on line 89
what is this ?
This has been corrected in v2.13. It was part of the Version Number display code incorrectly wrapped in double instead of single quotes. |
| Can't sort or submit questions in Joomla 1.0.11 - Fixed in v2.13 |
 | Since upgrading to Joomla 1.0.11 the component doesn't work properly. I don't have an option in the backend to set the sort order and it doesn't seem to save the setting. The option to submit questions has vanished. All that's there, is the list.
Presumably this is to do with the new security settings. Can you help?
The latest version starts to address these issues. You can now save your configuration settings again in the back end and submit questions in the front end. |
| Clicking a result of the SearchBot, leads to opening a new browser window. Is this normal? How do I alter this behaviour? |
 | As far as I know, this is controlled by Joomla. My search bot does not make any assumptions about how to display the results. |
| New version have a lot of bugs. File submit.php have incompleted tags. Script not working at all. |
 | V2.13 addresses several bugs, not sure if I have got them all yet, but hopefully most are fixed. |
| Which component is this? |
 | This is a new Mambo component called SimpleFAQ. It has been developed by Rick Chapman of Parkview Consultants as no similar product could be found.
You can download a copy of this component on the Products page. |
| How can I submit a question? |
 | Just click on submit a question! |
| What is a FAQ? |
 | FAQ stands for Frequently Asked Questions.
The theory is that many questions get asked repeatedly on a set subject. By collecting the answers here, the next person will obtain an answer rapidly. |
| Customize Display --- "Submit Question" Below Questions |
 | I would like to hide the "Submit Question" Link (form button) and I would like to display it as a link in my 'members only' usermenu.
This way, only members can add to the frequently asked questions, but the public can still view them.
Any help would be great, thanks.
